Turquoise Obsession

I've been mildly obsessed with the color turquoise for quite a while now.  And I somehow got it in my head that I needed some new turquoise melamine plates.  Do you want the background on that?  Of course you don't, but I'll tell you anyway.

I have a set of cute red plaid melamine plates that I often use for the kids.  It says on the back of the plates "not dishwasher safe."  So being the rule follower that I am, I've always hand washed them.  But one night we had friends over for dinner, and my friend offered to wash the dishes and put my melamine plates into the dishwasher.  The next morning when I emptied the dishes they appeared to have made it safely through the wash.  So I figured that it must be safe to be a rebel, and from that point on put my melamine dishes into the dishwasher.  My husband was totally annoyed by this: the fact that I'd put them into the dishwasher after my friend said it was safe, but not when he said it was.  Oh well.  Anyway long story short - after about a year of washing these dishes in the dishwasher they are all cracking and breaking.  But when this started happening there was a part of me that was like,"I was sick of those anyway and now I have an excuse to get new ones."

So when enough of my red plates went to their garbagio grave (this is the term my FIL uses for the garbage) I decided to search for some in my new fave color, turquoise.  I took my search to the Internet and couldn't quite find what I was looking for.  But did find that there is a vast array of cute melamine plates on the Internet if you're looking.  So one day when I was at Wal-Mart I was very pleased to find that they had turquoise melamine plates.  I think they were made just for me and I bought myself a set.  They also had some plastic ware in the same color so I got some of that too.  Cute, huh?

And the best part about plastic is you can take it outside and use it for BB Q's all Summer long. At least that's what I told myself when I also bought this matching bucket.  Don't you notice that when you become obsessed with something (like a color) you suddenly see it everywhere?  Some of my favorite things in this color can be found at Macy's in the Martha Stewart Home section.  I love her stuff, it makes me want to get married again just so that I can have a wedding registry there.  Ready to renew our vows honey?

In conclusion I'd just like to say that I have a real knack for making a short story long.  What can I say?  It's a talent.  Now you know what it's like to have a real conversation with me :)

And the moral of the story is: if you truly love your melamine dishes follow the rules, and hand wash them.

Okay I'm done now.  What is your color obsession?

LOL- this is so funny Nancy! I love the color you chose, and of course the bucket is a necessity!
I'm kind of digging orange right now.

I have loved turquoise forever. I love turquoise and spring green. I also am into yellow right now, but I can't wear it...maybe I should find some yellow dishes. :)

mmm hmmm. It's purple. For YEARS now. I always think I might like to go with some other "of the moment" color. But I just can't. I really love my purple.

Too funny! My birthday is in June and two years ago I picked out super fun melamine dishes from ikea, {they have zinnias all over them}. Anyway.... I don't let anyone wash them but me :). Love your turquoise ones!

Can't wait to come to dinner and eat on your new turquoise plates. Who is the "blog administrator" who keeps on removing comments from this blog? And what awful things did those comments that were removed say?
