J Crew Necklace Knockoff and Giveaway

A couple months ago I noticed a friend's cute necklace and asked her where she got it.  She said, J Crew.  I thought it was so cute that I wanted one for myself.  So our mutual friend who works at J Crew occasionally (for the discount) sent me one in the mail.  It looks like this.  It's basically a silver ring with cute silver toned charms on it.  I love it.

Once I got it in the mail and got a close look at it I decided that I could make a similar one.  So last week when the Gem Show came to town my Mom and I went and got some fun beads.  Here's my loot.

Then this afternoon I used some beads and tried my hand at my own version.  You'll have to let me know if I got it right, but I'm feeling pretty good about mine.

Here's mine next to the J Crew one.  Can you tell which one I made?  Mine is the gold one.

Here's how I did it.

You'll need a large jump ring, some head pins, and a bunch of varying beads.  You take one of the beads, put it on a head pin, and then bend it into a loop.  I used these round wire wrapping things (sorry I don't know what they're called) to get a good loop, but you don't have to have them to make one.  But in case you want to get some tools here's what I used.

You bend your wire into a loop and then wrap it around the base of the loop multiple times.  Once it's wrapped tight you take your wire cutters and snip off the end.  Now you have a cute little charm that you can put onto your large jump ring.  Keep doing this with all the charms you want to use. Then close your jump ring, put it onto a necklace chain, and you're done!

But I wasn't entirely done because I like to have jewelry sets so I made a matching bracelet.

And then I made a few more necklaces.

These were pretty fun to make, and I have plenty more combinations I'd like to try so I'm sure I'll be making them again.  But truth be told I have more jewelry than I could ever really wear (shh... don't tell my husband that) so I'm going to give one away.

GIVEAWAY RULES:
That's right.  I'm getting so close to 500 followers that I thought I'd see if you could help me reach that goal.  So to enter to win this silver necklace (well the charms aren't real gems, but the jump ring and head pins are real silver, the chain sadly is not though) simply become a follower of my blog, and leave me a comment below.  If you're already a follower let me know that.  I'll pick a winner some time on Thursday (March 31st) and get this necklace off to you!   Good luck, and thanks for following :)

BTW --those pliers in the pictures up above, the red ones with the little grooves we call "teeth".
dont get those for jewelry making. they make your wire all chewed up. get flat needle nose only.
just a tip from a jewelry freak :)
sorry---had to pipe that in :)

And I have the most pathetic little jewelry collection. I've been hoping to change that. This necklace would be a great start!

I can't believe you got into the jewelry making so quick after the bead show. My stuff is still sitting in the bag untouched. One of these days I will get around to making something cute. But your creations are the best!
